Senior Football

The Seniors played county champions Trillick at the weekend in their final league of the season. After Trillick were applauded onto the field by an Eglish guard of honour, the game played in perfect conditions was very competitive. Trillick lead at half time by two scores Eglish 0-5 Trillick 0-7 with some good scores from Eglish from Conor McKenna, Sean McKillion and Paraic Martin. The second half continued in the same vein with both teams trading scores and Trillick never any more than a few points ahead but about twelve minutes from the end Trillick scored the important decisive goal. Eglish rallied after that with scores from Sean McKillion, Conor McKenna and Emmet McKenna but the goal was the score that separated the teams at the end Eglish 0-12 Trillick 1-12.

Thanks to the all the players and management for all the effort throughout the year. Division 1 status been retained and we look forward to competing with the best in Tyrone again next year.

U16s

The U16s claimed their first piece of silverware at the weekend defeating Drumragh in the Grade 3 Championship Final. Played in Beragh in fine conditions Eglish made a blistering start and thirteen minutes into the game had scored three goals with the score Eglish 3-3 Drumragh 0-2. Seamus Muldoon inside was causing the Drumragh defence all sorts of problems, and he had scored 2-1 at that stage. Eglish were playing some scintillating football and corner back Jordan Marlowe scored a great solo goal carrying the ball thirty yards before dispatching to the net and he also scored another goal right before half time. The game looked to out of reach for Drumragh at half time with the scoreline Eglish 5-6 Drumragh 1-8.

Drumragh came out fighting in the second half and twelve minutes in a goal which was preceded by some frees had reduced the game to eight points Eglish 5-9 Drumragh 2-10. Dillion Horsefield and Seamus Muldoon were still tagging on points keeping Drumragh at bay, but a goal from substitute Aidan Murtagh on twenty six minutes really put the game out of their reach. Full time score, Eglish 6-11 Drumragh 2-14.  Congratulations to all the players and management who have put in a massive effort and got their rewards on Sunday. Hard luck to Drumragh who put up a brave fight in the second half.
