Ulster Club Champions – 2 in a Row!

On Sunday 23rd October, Eglish camogs lifted the Ulster Cup and held on to their Ulster champion crown’s for the second year in row!

After a delayed start and Granemore with a slight wind advantage, it was Eglish who got the first score with a Ciara Donnelly free. Points followed from Niamh McNulty, Maebh McHugh and Kelley Fay before Granemore eventually converted a 45 with 20 minutes gone to register their first score of the game.

At half time Eglish went in comfortable leaders with a 10 point advantage, 0-12 ; 0-2. Granemore began the second half with plenty of vigour but failed to make an impression on the scoreboard managing only a wide. Midfield sisters, Shauna and Aisling Jordan along with centre half back Ciara McGready worked tirelessly to ensure plenty of ball was going in to the Eglish forwards. Ciara Donnelly and Niamh continued to slot the ball over the bar and keep the scoreboard ticking.
There were joyous scenes when the final whistle was sounded, Eglish wining 0-19; 0-6 and completing back to back wins for the first time since 1987! A terrific achievement especially in Eglish Camogie Clubs 50th year celebrations!
Captain Ciara McGready was presented with the winning cup by Kathleen Woods, Ulster chairperson and Ciara Donnelly was deservedly awarded the player of the match.

Eglish now progress to the All-Ireland semifinal in early 2017.

Baby News

Maria Haughey doesn’t often miss out on Eglish’s big days but on Sunday 23rd October she had a valid reason for not being in attendance at the Ulster final! Earlier that morning, Cian Haughey arrived! Congratulations to Maria and her husband Eamonn and to Auntie Cathy! We hope Eamonn is getting the hang of daddy duties as we want mummy back out at training soon!
